At 1924 Custom Soapery, our mission has always been to create affordable, clean skincare that also leaves little impact on our environment.
Originally just a bar soap business, we opted to never wrap our soaps in plastic and instead to use a paper band around them.
As people fell in love with our soap, our loyal customers started to ask for more product offerings. One of the first challenges we faced was how to offer Lip Lotion without contributing to the number of plastic lip balm tubes in the landfills. Furthermore, we didn’t want our labels to contain single use plastic. We found a solution with paper tubes and paper labels. We love knowing our Lip Lotion tubes are not part of the single-use plastic in landfills.
Finding paper labels that hold up to the beautiful oils in our products and humid environments in bathrooms has been a continual challenge. We also want our products to be beautiful when you receive them while also keeping our earth beautiful. We have found beautiful, paper labels that are also very durable in the humid bathroom environment.
As a team, we have found solutions, but making sustainable choices is a group effort. We also love that our customers join in the ongoing effort to reduce the use of single-use plastic. When we introduced sprays to our line up, we decided to offer a spray top for the first time purchase and then a metal refill cap for subsequent purchases.
Our Liquid Soap comes to you concentrated in a mason jar. You get to find a beautiful and lasting soap pump for your bathroom or kitchen and refill it to help eliminate plastic waste from disposable soap pumps.
Our Shampoo and Conditioner Bars come to you wrapped in an unbleached coffee filter. Think of all plastic we collectively eliminate when we stop tossing plastic shampoo bottles with plastic labels into the landfills.
Our Laundry Detergent is made of the simplest ingredients and comes to you in a paper bag with a paper label. There are no synthetic foaming agents or other ingredients that are hard on water supply or on skin. We also offer dryer ball sets made from 100% New Zealand wool for a reusable, durable and plastic-free alternative to dryer sheets.
Our ingredients are also gentle on the environment. We don’t use sulfates, parabens, or phthalates in our products and many of our products are scented with only essential oils. When our products are washed off or rinsed down the drain, none of those harsh ingredients get added to the air or water.
The name “1924” is both in honor of Aaron’s beloved grandfather and also a nod to a simpler time when plastic didn’t exist. Showers, laundry, and housecleaning all happened without harmful chemicals and plastic waste, and it is our mission to bring some of the 1924 way of life to the 2000’s. Sometimes progress looks like going backwards.
